The Elementary School has been told that we will lose power to the school this afternoon for a short time. You will not be able to call the Elementary School during this time, but you can leave a message with the Middle School and they will make sure we receive it.
Our Book Fair will be open this week for students to shop. It will also be open during Parent Teacher Conferences tonight at the Elementary School for anyone to shop.
A reminder that Parent Teacher Conferences are Monday, October 21 from 3:15 to 6:30 and Monday, October 28 from 3:15 to 6:30. Please reach out to your child's teacher or the school to schedule an appointment if you haven't done so already.
Shelby Conner will be running in the State Cross Country meet tomorrow, Saturday, Oct 19, at 10:00 am at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds. Come out and cheer her on. Good luck Shelby!!

Just a reminder that in person registration is today from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. and tomorrow, July 23 from 10:00 - 1:00 pm at the Elementary and Middle Schools. Returning students may also register online. Kindergarten and 6th grade students must have school physicals along with updated shots and any student participating in sports must have a physical on file.
Spring Garden CCSD #178 is taking applications to fill a vacancy on the Board of Education for a term that expires in 2025. Those interested should submit a letter of interest and resume for the BOE to review to Tammy Beckham, Superintendent, Spring Garden CCSD #178, 14975 E Bakerville Rd, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864 or email tbeckham@sgd178.org. The deadline to apply is July 19, 2024.
The end of the year picnic is on Monday, May 20 at noon at the Elementary School. We will bus the Middle School students to the elementary school for the picnic. Families are welcome to join us for a picnic lunch. If you attend, you may take your child with you at the end of the picnic after signing out with their teacher. Students still at school will be dismissed at 2:00 on Monday, May 20.
Congratulations to Landon Mays, Elijah Robinson, and Shelby Conner for qualifying for the State Track Meet!!! Landon placed first in the 100m and 3rd in the 200m and will participate in both events at state. Elijah placed second in the 100m and will compete at state in that event. Shelby placed 2nd in the 800 m and will race that event at state. The State Track Meet will be on Saturday, May 11 at DuQuoin. We are so proud of all of you!!!
Our Spring Music Concert is on Monday, May 6 at 6:30pm at the Elementary School. The Elementary Students and the Band students from the Middle School will participate.
The Academic/Sports Awards program will be on Tuesday, May 7 at 6:00pm at the Middle School. Students who participated in sports in grades 3-8, spelling bee, brain games, scholar bowl, band, student council, newspaper, and the Middle School Honor and High Honor students will be recognized.

As part of the required data collection for the 2024 Illinois School Report Card, Spring Garden Schools will be administering the 5 Essentials Survey to district students and staff members. District parents also have an opportunity to complete the survey, and we encourage you to do so. Besides providing feedback to the district, survey results also are used by ISBE, along with other data, to help determine a school's designation score (Exemplary, Commendable, etc). Family Reading Night: Please join us on Thursday, March 7 from 6:00 to 7:00pm at the Elementary School for a Dr. Seuss themed Family Reading Night. There will be several book reading rooms to choose from, drawings for prizes, refreshments, and you can shop at the Book Fair while you are here.

Calendar Change: Monday, April 8, has been changed to an 11:15 dismissal day for students instead of a regular day. We anticipate there being an enormous amount of traffic in our area that afternoon due to the Solar Eclipse which would make regular dismissal time very difficult. Please make this change in your calendars and we will also remind everyone closer to the day.
